Tour to start circuit in South America

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) ? The PGA Tour is going south of the border.

The tour is launching the "PGA Tour Latinoamerica" next year, which will feature 11 tournaments in seven countries. It will have 144-man fields that will consist mainly of local players from South America and Mexico. The top players on the money list will then gain access to the Nationwide Tour.

American players who now play mini-tours also will have access to the Latinoamerica tour. Those details have not been worked out.

PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem says the new tour comes at the right time. The Nationwide Tour already has events in Colombia and Chile, and golf makes its return to the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.
