French film helps Russian children beat cancer ? RT

Half of the box-office receipts for a new French movie will go to a large Russian children's charity.

"Declaration of War" tells the story of a young French couple whose newborn son is diagnosed with cancer. The parents "declare war" on the illness, and the boy manages to pull through. The film is available in French at the cinemas, 35MM and Five Stars.

The head of the "Gift Life" charity told Prime Time why nationality and wealth do not matter when it comes to fighting a deadly illness.

?In the film, you can see that even in France, with all the social benefits and government support, parents are exhausted,? Ekaterina Chistyakova, director of Life Charity Foundation, told RT. ?Here in Russia, cancer treatment also costs a fortune.?

Chistyakova says that another reason for showing the film is to create understanding.

?People should stop shying away from sick children,? she told RT. ?There is a moment in this film, when the mother of the child tells her friend about her son?s illness and the friend doesn?t know what to say. But life goes on, and this problem touches everyone, not just the family of the child.?
