Mayor wants urgent quake briefing

With more strong earthquakes rattling the city today, Christchurch mayor Bob Parker has called for an urgent briefing from GNS Science seismologists.

He says he has fielded a lot of questions today and everywhere he goes it is what people are talking about.

Mr Parker says people are obviously concerned and it's important they hear from the scientists about what is happening and the likelihood of further events.

Bob Parker says he is organising a forum for the city's elected members, local MPs, and the media, as it is important people get the most up-to-date information available.

He hopes that will take place on Friday afternoon.
