A non profit online security firm called CLOUD Inc is on a mission to create better tools for handling online user identity information. This issue is becoming more critical each year given the increase in identity theft and the growing importance of online reputation. CLOUD?s vision of enhanced online security is based on a new contextual markup language which they are developing to provide an extra layer of security for identity information online. The technology would decentralize identity data so that it would be more difficult to duplicate an entire user profile, yet still have access to whatever information is needed for specific uses. It would also allow users to only set their online privacy settings once, rather than having to reset them for every website they visit, making online data both easier to manage and more secure.
